Paphos Hotels and Apts in Paphos

A popular holiday resort, this once sleepy fishing village with a charming harbour at its centre by Pafos Fort, is also the location of the island's second international airport. It is home to spectacular beach front hotels, gives way to fabulous countryside and is a must for history and archaeology buffs since, in Hellenistic and Roman times, it was the capital of Cyprus. Is it any wonder that UNESCO added the whole town to its World Heritage list.

Paphos city

Nearby Lempa village is the site of a faithfully reconstructed chalcolithic settlement. While the famous Enclosure at Ayios Neophytos Monastery, carved out the mountain by the hermit himself, has some of the finest Byzantine frescoes of the 12th and 15th centuries. If you've got a sweet tooth don't miss the 'loukoumi' of Yeroskipou, 4km from Paphos.

Paphos

Dramatic coastline and banana plantations are characteristic of the picturesque area surrounding Paphos which eventually gives way to the nature trails of the unspoilt Akamas Peninsula. The Akamas area is a natural wilderness packed with diverse features in vegetation, wildlife, geology, landscapes and coasts, and with a rich historical and cultural heritage. It's also a safe haven for the endangered Greenback sea turtle.

According the legend the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite, was born in Paphos from the sea bubble and from that time the Paphos city is considered as a city of love.

Paphos is involved in tourist industry. The climate, city location, history and its atmosphere are favorable to have a pleasant holiday here. It is popular place with many tourists, especially from United Kingdom.

Paphos Alexander The Great view

It is difficult to find another place where the cognitive and peaceful day life changes to the active and bright night life, with a lot of surprises.

On the West of Cyprus ruins of a medieval Georgian monastery have been found. As the local press informs, in 1981 the Georgian professor Vakhtang Dzhobadze has informed about the destroyed church in the wood to the north from Paphos. However only in October, 2006 the commission of experts of the Cyprian Department of antiquity and the Georgian ministry of culture have established its exact site.

The Georgian monastery has been working from X till XIV century, about what testifies the inscriptions found in its southern gallery. Experts have established that the temple had a special support of legendary Georgian tsarina Tamara /1184-1213/ which has allocated funds for its scale restoration. Now on Cyprus live many Georgian people. They have received a residence permit on Cyprus. Many of them become rich and have hotels, villas and restaurants. Some people simply work in consumers services, for example in the shops.

Reviews:

Miss Eleni P.
In Paphos there are hundreds of restaurants, taverns and other places where it is possible to try the Cyprian cuisine.
Some of them for tourists are located on quay of Paphos, in others sit constantly local residents. All the restaurants are fully filled up with people in the evenings when the heat falls down and from the sea blows the pleasant breeze.
